FIDM Alumna Danijela Vasic Designs Collection for SHEIN X Program
Recent Grad Danijela Vasic just launched a collection with the SHEIN X program featuring body-conscious women’s wear and outerwear. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Danijela headed to Los Angeles for FIDM and the sunshine. “I chose FIDM because I was always obsessed with the idea of going to a fashion-based school that showed what it is like to be in the industry and learn every aspect of fashion. I liked how we learned so many parts of the industry and had teachers who are industry professionals. Also, I always knew I wanted to be in sunny California.”
She earned her A.A. in Fashion Design in 2020 and then went on to pursue her B.A. in Design, which she completed in June 2022, just after winning the California Fashion Foundation (CFF) Scholarship Award. When her success was highlighted in the FIDM blog, SHEIN took note and reached out. We asked Danijela to tell us the story.
Please tell us about your collaboration with Shein! How did it come about? Back in May, I won the California Fashion Foundation (CFF) Scholarship Award. Felicha Bogroff, Project Coordinator for SHEIN X, saw the FIDM article about me and contacted me through LinkedIn asking if I wanted to be a part of their SHEIN X Program!
SHEIN X allows the upcoming designer to do what they want and make any of their designs come to life. It is an amazing opportunity to gain exposure with millions of customers worldwide. It's a dream come true to be a part of this and I am so grateful to have this experience. It's so mind-blowing and still feels unreal. I would love to give a special thanks to Felicha Bogroff for making this happen and giving me a chance to show my work.
How do you describe your SHEIN collection? The way I would describe my collection is sexy and timeless with a personal Dani touch. I wanted to create timeless designs that bring out playful sides with sparkles or cut outs. I wanted the garments to be something people can dress up or down. Nothing too over the top but something that can be worn for a lifetime.
How has FIDM prepared you for this experience? The way FIDM prepared me for this experience was by helping me learn time management skills. With how fast-paced everything was, lots of deadlines, and needing to prioritize my time, having great time management made me successful in this. And even seeing how the process of everything works and how production works with the samples and finalizing everything. It was definitely interesting to see how everything works.
What are your career goals? I would love to continue to work with SHEIN! The whole experience was so amazing and I would love to do it again. Another career goal is to work for Savage X Fenty. I want to be part of a company that shows different types of beauty and makes everyone feel empowered.
