Empowering Success: FIDM Alumnus Tracie Fields' Journey in Creative Business

Tracie Fields has successfully carved his niche in the creative business industry, attributing significant aspects of his journey to the learnings and experiences he gained at FIDM. FIDM is where he gained the critical tools needed to navigate the intricate world of creative business successfully.

Fields benefited greatly from the creative business focus of FIDM, which not only expanded his creative vocabulary, but also fueled his innovative approaches in roles as a stylist, casting agent, and Special Project Coordinator for American Apparel Factory. While juggling these roles, Fields was able to apply his teachings from FIDM to notable projects such as Miley Cyrus' Bangerz tour and casting for Saint Laurent, thereby honing in on his entrepreneurial skills.

Fields, like many, has faced numerous challenges on his journey. The hurdles he overcame at FIDM reshaped his resilience and adaptability—crucial skills he applies to this day to navigate the fluctuating dynamics within the creative business industry.

His experience at FIDM underlined the value of networking and mentorship. Antonio Barragan, a successful designer, acted as his mentor, imparting valuable knowledge on managing a creative business. He was also able to gain key insights from highly prominent figures such as Virgil Abloh, Hedi Slimane, and Jerry Lorenzo.

Fields used FIDM's library databases and career center consistently to stay ahead of the curve. He believes in authenticity and movements, while continuously leveraging the concepts he learned in marketing, branding, and design classes to make impactful strides within his field.

His advice is to channel passion and tenacity while leveraging the plentiful resources offered by the school. “My advice is to not give up! Don't be afraid to seek knowledge outside of your coursework. The journey is immensely rewarding for those who are passionate and driven because it requires long nights of hard work. The people who underestimate you the most will always propel you to go further than they could ever imagine.”

Fields' story exemplifies how determination, coupled with the right skills and mentorship, can lead to notable success in creative business.
