Grad Cassidy Sobey Hosts FIDM Students at AllSaints HQ in London

B.S. in Business Management Grad Cassidy Sobey has been working at AllSaints at their headquarters in London, England for the past year as a sustainability assistant on their new Environmental, Social, and Governance team (ESG). This summer, she invited FIDM students who were visiting London on a FIDM Study Tour, led by FIDM Director of International Affairs Sarah Repetto, to participate in a tour of the AllSaints headquarters where they networked with people in sustainability, production, garment tech, design, denim, merchandising, and buying. The students were also given a tour of the pattern room where they got to see digital pattern making and 3D modeling come to life.

AllSaints recently featured Cassidy in a LinkedIn post where she discusses her job duties. “My primary role as one of the ESG Assistants is to manage the AllSaints products that contain sustainable attributes. This consists of confirming that products do contain sustainable attributes by receiving certifications from our suppliers and working with the teams to incorporate these attributes in our products.”

She also talked about the company culture, saying, “I know most places like to say that they are like one big family, but AllSaints truly is one of those brands. The openness and friendliness within the teams makes my job more enjoyable and easier to come into work.”

Cassidy was born and raised in Northern California where she attended Carlmont High School and played varsity tennis all four years. After she completed her first year at FIDM in the Apparel Industry Management program, she moved to Paris for a paid summer internship in PR at Ungaro. She returned to Los Angeles to complete three degrees at FIDM: A.A. in Apparel Industry Management, A.A. Advanced Study in International Manufacturing & Product Development (IMPD), and her B.S. in Business Management. She also holds a Master of Science Degree in International Business from Hult International Business School. We caught up with Cassidy to learn more.

Tell us about the event you organized for the FIDM Study Tour in London. I had the students come visit AllSaints HQ in London. Department representatives from ESG, Production, Garment Tech, WW Design, Denim, Buying, and Merchandising presented to the students about what they do within the business and what a career is like within their respective areas. The students were given a tour of the pattern room where they got to see digital pattern making and 3D modeling for some of our products. I also showed them around Spitalfields and our flagship store at Jacks Place where they got to shop.

What do you enjoy most about giving back to FIDM students? I really enjoyed seeing how intrigued the students were with different areas of the business. It was nice to see the excitement in some of them for what is hopefully to come in their future careers.

How long have you been at AllSaints and how are you liking it? I have been at AllSaints now for around 10 months. I have really enjoyed my time at AllSaints working in their new ESG Team. There have been lots of challenges to figure out in the business, but I am learning so much while making an impact within the business. The team dynamic also makes working at AllSaints enjoyable too :)

For any FIDM students who might want to follow in your footsteps, what’s your advice to them? The best advice I would give is to be open to exploring other opportunities. After I finished FIDM in March 2020, my options were limited on what to do next. While I was originally planning on waiting to do my Masters degree, I decided to go ahead since there weren’t many jobs on the market. I then made a last minute decision to study in London since it was a city I've always thought about living in. I was nervous to go since I didn’t know anyone and I'd be far away from my family, but I am so glad I did. I was then able to stay in London after finishing my degree. I found a job at a great company I love working for, and get to live in an incredible city like London. So, if there is something you want to do or change, just go for it because you will never know unless you try.
