Grad is Co-Founder of Harvard Street Theatre Company
Born in Joplin, Missouri and raised in Alaska, Oklahoma, and Arizona, Debradawn Shockey became interested in acting and fashion as a child. At age 17, she began studying theater at Mt. San Jacinto College, and with the encouragement of her stepdad, she applied to FIDM to pursue her love of fashion and costuming. Today, Hemet, California-based Debradawn is the co-founder of Harvard Street Theatre Company since she knew there was a community of beginning and veteran actors in the area who wanted to perform.
Along with her friend Kami Martin, Debradawn developed seasonal cabaret productions that run for one or two evenings at alternating venues. “Many of our theater friends wanted to get back out there and flex their acting muscles without having to commit to weeks of rehearsals,” she recently told The Press-Enterprise of the theater company, which was founded in 2019. Debradawn, who graduated from FIDM in 1998 with an A.A. Professional Designation Fashion Design degree, has also worked as a costume designer for more than 20 years.
