Interior Design Grad Featured In Simply Bowie Magazine
Sarah Wilson, who graduated from FIDM in 2015 with an A.A., Professional Designation, in Interior Design, was recently featured as the cover story for the September issue of Simply Bowie magazine, a periodical that focuses on the Bowie, MD area. Her residential design firm, Chansaerae Designs, has been serving clients in Washington, D.C, Virginia, and Maryland for the last seven years. In the piece, Sarah says of her clients, “...at the end of the day when the project is completed, I want them to feel like the space reflects who they are as a person, as a family. And I want them to be able to enjoy it for years to come.”
Born on St. Lucia and raised on St. Croix, Sarah attended St. Croix Seventh-day Adventist School before completing degrees at Andrews University and University of Redlands. She then transferred to FIDM and later went on to study Interior Architecture in a joint program between UCLA and California State Polytechnic University-Pomona. We checked in with Sarah to learn more.
Please tell us about your company, Chansaerae Designs: My greatest joy is to transform a home to reflect the people that live there. I love that I can create spaces that transcend trends and years later they still love.
What are your favorite designs to work on? Complete renovation with kitchens and baths
How did FIDM help prepare you for your career? I’ve always been a designer but did not have any systems in place. So I learned drafting, code, and process.
Anything else you’d like to share? I will forever be grateful to FIDM and Interior Design Chairperson Dina Morgan. I had a ton of design classes and a degree so I was able to fast track my degree, participate in Chairing Styles 2015, and make lifelong friends.
