An Update On Our Fall 2020 Quarter

June 25, 2020

Dear FIDM Community,

As we look toward fall, we want to update you with the latest information about our plans for the upcoming academic year.

While we’ve had to adapt our approach to teaching, learning, and campus life in recent months, we hope to welcome students back to our beautiful campuses for the fall quarter, as long as it is safe to do so and in alignment with guidelines from public health authorities. We are also discussing how we might open up some of our campus resources, on a limited basis, prior to the fall quarter.

Our goal, as always, will be to provide the best possible learning environment, opportunities, and outcomes, and we are optimistic about our ability to achieve this even during such an unprecedented time.

Faculty and staff are devoted to finding innovative solutions to deliver academic continuity and excellence while prioritizing the health and safety of everyone in our community.

With the goal of preparing appropriate protocols and contingency plans, we are modeling scenarios for fall that are responsive to social distancing, sanitization requirements, and other conditions. Should circumstances require, we are considering a broad range of alternatives, such as adjusting the academic calendar, utilizing unconventional spaces, and complementing classroom instruction with hybrid methodologies.

We will work with students impacted by travel restrictions or health concerns to find appropriate academic accommodations so that disruptions to their educational experience are minimized.

In the meantime, we will continue communicating with students and families regularly throughout the summer with additional details. As always, we will be closely following any updates to the public health guidelines, and adjusting our plans accordingly.

While the previous weeks and months have been challenging, it has only renewed our commitment and strengthened our community as we prepare our students to lead lives of creativity and purpose.

Sincerely and with best wishes,

The FIDM Board of Administration
