Grad's New Boutique Matte Argyle Serves Sizes Up to 3X

Celebrity stylist, costume designer, entrepreneur, and Visual Communications Graduate Tashiba Jones-Wilson’s desire to fill a void in the plus size market led her to open the new retail store Matte Argyle in Los Angeles. Unlike most shops that cater to a limited range of sizes, the men’s and women’s boutique located at Runway in Playa Vista features extended sizes up to 3X, as well as fashion styling and makeup services, and studio service shopping for the film and TV industry.

Matte Argyle features a unique assortment of brands such as Madame Adassa, Tango Hotel, Cult of Individuality, and ZMJ Denim. There are also collections from FIDM Alumni-owned labels such as Izayla by I’sha Dunston and LIVD by Jim Lee. “I carry several colors of Izayla’s popular jumpsuit in straight and extended sizes, and I’m also excited to feature her new collection of loungewear,” said Tashiba. “LIVD offers plus size women dresses and separates and designs and manufactures their own product in-house.”

When asked why it was important to Tashiba to carry brands from her fellow alumni, she said: “We are family. I love my school and it's given birth to some great talent. I want to give opportunities to my fellow alums that are passionate about growing their fashion business.” In addition to focusing on her new retail venture, Tashiba, who has worked on shows such as Black-ish, Insecure, and America’s Got Talent, among many other projects, is currently the costume designer on a new series, Angel, for Imani Entertainment.
