Grad is Social Media Manager at Hollywood Agency

We recently chatted with Social Media Graduate Anthony Marquez, who is a Social Media Manager at Hollywood Vine Group, a leading social media agency.

Tell us about your position at Hollywood Vine Group. I am able to work with industry professionals who are on top of the current social media trends on a daily basis. Some of the clients I have been able to personally work on include Jay Mewes of Jay and Silent Bob, Danny Trejo, and an amazing band called Dankrupt. Because of my background in entertainment, I get to work with all the fun clients and some great upcoming brands in a few business spaces that are just blowing up this year. On the daily beat, I strategize with our clients personally, and once we have a game plan, it is my job to produce and publish engaging content that contributes to hitting our marketing objectives.

What were you doing prior to attending FIDM? I was working as a stagehand at my local concert venue and also as an assistant to the promoter, so I got to help book shows and manage promotions on social media. After that, I had enough experience in promotions and marketing concerts to be able to move to Hollywood and get a job working as a Marketing Assistant at the Silverback Music Record Label where I helped run social media campaigns for bands like Slightly Stoopid, The Expendables, and Fishbone, to name a few.

How did you decide to study Social Media at FIDM? I decided to pursue a degree in Social Media at FIDM in late 2014, after I had realized that it was a viable career option, since I already had a job working in the space it was an easy decision. Also, FIDM was the only school around at the time who had a social media program.

How did the program help prepare you for your career? FIDM was great for learning how to think deeper into digital marketing strategies. I was able to work with the same group of students for two years, so we were able to develop thesis and knowledge together as a unit which I think was an invaluable experience. I also enjoyed getting a refresher on my Photoshop chops and learned a new skill with Adobe Illustrator. I think it's really important for students who want to get into social media to have both a marketing mind and also an eye for design, because that all comes into play when you are strategizing with clients and producing content on a daily basis.
