Student Hired at Legendary Jewelry Brand After Attending FIDM Career Fair
Kian Mirin will be graduating this June with his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Creative Industry Studies, Merchandising & Marketing Core. But a little over a year ago, he made a connection at the FIDM Career Fair that has changed his life. What started as a seasonal position at Tiffany & Co. in December 2019 has turned into a job in operations at their Rodeo Drive location, where he is still working. He’s also launched his own brand, KKMIRIN. We caught up with him to learn more about his journey.
Tell us a little about yourself: I am 21 years old and from Iran. I was born and raised in San Diego and moved to Los Angeles in October of 2019.
What is one of your proudest accomplishments? One of my proudest accomplishments is receiving my third-degree black belt in the martial arts of Taekwondo.
Why did you choose FIDM? Fashion has always been a dominant part of my life as far as interests. I believe this school sets you up for an environment to become successful in the world of fashion. I chose my major due to the fact of the business side of my personality. Merchandising and marketing will play the perfect role in my future desires in the workspace. I see myself owning a growing brand name. I have developed my first brand named KKMIRIN.
Tell us about your experience at the FIDM Career Fair: I attended the FIDM Career Fair in October 2019 and met with a Tiffany & Co. representative. After a short but effective conversation with her, I received an email the same day offering me a position to work as a seasonal employee for the month of December. I was hired to work in the Operations department and I am still working as an Operations Professional on Rodeo Drive to this day.
What are your career goals and how is FIDM helping you get there? I plan on growing within the current company I am in right now that has just been acquired by LVMH, the world’s leader in high-quality products. FIDM gave me the bridge to connect with a representative in the company who had offered me the position. FIDM sets you up in an environment that makes it hard to fail, with an extremely helpful staff to the innovative students that attend the institute.
Anything else you’d like to share? If you want something in life, I promise you, you are able to get it. You must have your mindset truly focused on what you want in this life, and the world will deliver. The number one thing is to keep your health and happiness secure because without these two things, we are nothing.
