Navy Veteran Jessica Mirazo Returns to FIDM to Study Interior Design

Born and raised in the Los Angeles area, Jessica Mirazo attended Norwalk High School and graduated in 2002. She started at FIDM studying Visual Communications but life took her in another direction and she joined the United States Navy before she completed the program. As a veteran, she has returned to FIDM, now in the Interior Design program, with a goal to buy and remodel residential properties. In her spare time, she works at a horse rescue in Trabuco Canyon doing Equine Assisted Coaching. She said horses are energy sensitive, and she has a special connection with one of their horses, Enzo. We caught up with her to learn more.

Tell us about your experience in the Navy: The Navy has really been a blessing in disguise, there is no way I would be who or where I am today if it was not for the skills I learned while In. Although it could be rough at times, I loved my experience. I got to do some really cool things while I was in the Navy. I fueled jets on top of a ship! I got to see the night stars in a way that only few have. I also rode in a V-22 Osprey military aircraft while hanging out the back. It was awesome. I met some incredible people who are lifelong friends.

Why Interior Design? I had gone to FIDM for Visual Communications before but did not finish. My ultimate goal is to acquire properties, and remodel them for renting or reselling, so I felt like coming back for Interior Design was a good fit.

How is FIDM helping you toward your career goals? Aside from the training, it is a great way to network and get to know resources, in many fields.
