Grad is Graphic Designer at Osmosis

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Jose Alex Aranda graduated from FIDM in 2003 with his degree in Graphic Design. He attended Chatsworth High School as well as La Puente High School and is now working in graphic design and video editing at Osmosis, a health education platform that supplies content for YouTube. Alex is currently taking a course in creating visuals with JavaScript coding. We caught up with him to learn more about his career.

Tell us about your position at Osmosis: My responsibilities at Osmosis include creating graphics for our blog posts and social media channels. I also work on illustration, video editing, animation, and HTML for email campaigns.

How did FIDM help prepare you for your career? While at FIDM I learned a lot of things that prepared me for many future jobs. The graphic design major touched on animation, video editing, and HTML. The instructors at that time showed me the tools I needed to move forward in my career, it was very beneficial and made me stand out by knowing more tools. I still continue to learn new tools, to keep up with industry trends. Currently, I am taking a course where you make visuals with JavaScript coding.

Anything else you’d like to share? I’ve been with Osmosis for four years now, when I started working with them my main responsibility was video editing. I have learned a lot of medical content and terminology from the videos I was editing; it's a plus of working in the medical industry. Osmosis has given me a unique look at the study habits of medical professionals and my respect for them has grown immensely during the last few years.

When I started with Osmosis, it was a small startup with only about 25-30 full-time employees. We’ve seen a lot of growth in the last couple of years and as of this December 2021, we have joined the Elsevier Family.
