Recent Grad Working as an Editor at Glamnetic

Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina where she attended Sanderson High School, Ally Sutherland-Horton said she was “practically raised” by movies and fell in love with film and storytelling at a young age. “I eventually realized how much I wanted to be a part of creating and sharing those stories with the world,” she said. Ally made the move to Los Angeles to attend FIDM’s Digital Media program and earned an A.A. in 2019. She continued her studies at the college and received a B.A. in Digital Cinema in 2020. Today she’s an Editor for the beauty brand Glamnetic. We checked in with Ally to learn more about her role, how FIDM helped prepare her for the industry, and what she ultimately hopes to do in her career.

Tell us about your new role as an Editor for Glamnetic: I edit paid influencer and creative ads for Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. I also concept and execute new prospecting and retargeting creatives and assist in filming and producing YouTube videos at the studio. I direct, film, and edit stop-motion and tutorial videos and composite static ads for promos and sales.

What are you enjoying most about this position and why? I enjoy having the freedom be creative with ads.

How did FIDM help prepare you for your career? FIDM helped me learn that editing isn’t just throwing some clips together — it’s about creating and telling a story.

Any favorite FIDM lessons or memories? My favorite class was Cinema 4D!

What are your ultimate career goals? Animatic Editor or Creative Director for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
