Business Management and Fashion Design Grad Has Designed for Joyrich, K-Swiss, and Billie Eilish

Business Management and Fashion Design Grad, Dahye Lee, came to FIDM as an international student and now she's the CEO of her own design consulting firm. She's designed for a multitude of companies and celebrities, including Joyrich, Playboy, K-Swiss, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and Soulja Boy.

Where were you born and raised? Seoul, Korea.

When did you first show an interest in creativity or design? I felt like I always had interest in art and over time that developed into a passion for design.

How did you hear about FIDM? Who hasn’t heard about FIDM?

What made you want to attend? FIDM only continues to grow stronger over time. I also love Los Angeles.

What were some valuable things you learned at FIDM? How to juggle internships while going to school, and I learned the necessity of time management.

Tell us about your internships while you were studying at FIDM? I was involved in three internships: BCBG MAXAZRIA, Halston, and Mila Hermanovski. Through these internships, I was able to start a full-time job right after graduation.

What was the international student experience like at FIDM? It was great. There are students from all different cultures at FIDM. I was able to expand my horizons while attending school.

What have you been doing since graduation? While I was at Halston as a corporate designer, I learned the most about project execution and growing business relationships. I naturally had interest on leading projects so I had to learn how to direct and manage. Through my experience as a corporate designer, I was able to continue to lead new design projects. Eventually I branched off on my own and became independent designer for brand collaborations, capsule collections, and pop-up events for brands like Joyrich, K-Swiss, and Playboy.

To what do you attribute your success with these companies and celebrities? In the creative process, my focus has been to create strong, influential collections. The final piece is the conclusion of hours of brainstorming and teamwork. I also think I just happen to be a the right place at the right time.

What is it like to see your work on such notable people? It’s really humbling that celebrities are wearing my clothing. It motivates me to continue to stay fresh and creative. It is extremely rewarding. I almost forget about all the hard work that it took to get to that place.
