Instructor TJ Walker is Judge for Fred Segal Grant Project Benefitting Black Designers

Apparel Industry Management Instructor TJ Walker, who is a co-founder of the iconic Cross Colours brand and the Black Design Collective, is one of the judges for the second installment of Fred Segal’s Season Zero design contest. The partnership between the retailer and the Black in Fashion Council provides Black fashion designers with a $10,000 grant, mentorship, and the chance to manufacture their first collection to be sold at Fred Segal’s flagship LA location.

An illustrious panel of judges, including Walker, Black in Fashion Council co-founder Lindsay Peoples Wagner, and Yowie founder Shannon Maldonado, will judge emerging designer entrants on their creativity, execution, and vision. The Season Zero contest is open through February 28, 2022 and the winner will be announced on March 31, 2022. Their collection will be sold at Fred Segal in a dedicated pop-up space this fall. Last year’s winners were Connor McKnight, K.NGSLEY, and House of Aama.
