FIDM Alumni are Costume Designers on The Sex Lives of College Girls
In a recent HBO Max video about the craft of costume design on the Mindy Kaling-created series, The Sex Lives of College Girls, co-designers Salvador Pérez Jr., who studied at FIDM, and Glinda Suarez, a 2001 Fashion Design Graduate, take viewers on a behind the scenes look at the hit show.
“Costume design is not just shopping. A costume designer is a storyteller first and we’re telling the story through their costumes,” said Pérez, who serves as president of the Costume Designers Guild and was costume designer on Never Have I Ever, The Mindy Project, and the Pitch Perfect films.
“I went to fashion school thinking I want to be a fashion designer,” said Suarez, who first discovered costume design at FIDM’s annual Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition and has worked on Black Monday and America’s Got Talent. “Hard work pays off — just don’t give up on your dreams.”
