Fashion Grad Profiled in Gentry Magazine

Fashion Grad Profiled in Gentry Magazine

Patrice Curry, who has enjoyed a retail management career at Neiman Marcus for more than 30 years, was recently profiled in Gentry Magazine

The retail veteran, who studied Fashion Design at FIDM, told the magazine she discovered her passion for fashion as a girl. "I'd always admired my mother's sense of fabulous fashion," she said. "She would frequently create her own designs, sewing and accessorizing her day-to-day looks. At 10, I asked her to make me a new skirt. She taught me how to sew. I was immediately hooked, became a regular at the fabric store, and began designing and styling myself a new wardrobe."

After high school she enrolled at FIDM's San Francisco campus and worked in local clothing boutiques part-time. After realizing she loved being around customers, Patrice decided to focus on retail management. She began working for Neiman Marcus Palo Alto as a Christmas hire in 1985, just five months after the store opened its doors. After working in intimates for a year, she was promoted to Assistant Handbags and Accessories Manager, and went on to manage intimate apparel as well.

"Through the next 30 years, I managed contemporary sportswear, dresses and coats, fine apparel, and even had a five-year stint at Neiman Marcus San Francisco," she told the magazine. "But I came full circle and now am back to where I started my management career--Designer Handbags and Accessories."
