Project Runway Designer Alex Snyder Speaks on LA Campus

Fashion Designer Alex Snyder visited the Premier Merchandise Product Development Group as a guest speaker this week on the LA campus, sharing his industry insights with the elite group of students.

Alex has been immersed in the fashion industry for the last seventeen years, working in virtually every aspect from retail planning and fashion shows to sourcing and fashion design. He started his eponymous line, Alexander Michael Snyder, in 2008 and carries it in the same Dallas Market Center showroom as J.Dosi, the line by FIDM Alumna Jenna Piantedosi. It started as collection based but he’s moved into tops and soft outerwear.

Alexander purchased a silk manufacturing company in San Francisco and opened a consultancy business, bringing in digital patternmaking. He’s worked with industry giants including GAP, Old Navy, and Chicos. He makes 3D prototypes so he can see fit issues before it’s even sewn.

Two years ago, Alex was a contestant on Lifetime’s Project Runway, Season 15. In one of the most emotional episodes in the history of the show, he took the blame when the judges asked who should go home. At the time, Tim Gunn said, “To take the bullet is something that’s unprecedented on Project Runway.” Mary Kay awarded him $5k to invest in his company.
