Fashion Design Grad Wins ISKO I-SKOOL Denim Design Digital Prize

Recent Fashion Design Graduate David Caracuel was just named the winner of the ISKO I-SKOOL™ Denim Design Digital award. Each year, I-SKOOL™ selects students from different fashion schools around the world to participate in a design competition. "We all had to submit a portfolio showing a denim mini collection of three looks inspired by one of the three themes they suggested," David explains. "My theme was Renovated Denim Icons. They picked three students from FIDM and I was lucky to be one of them."

David and the other finalists (Quinton Lovelace and ISKO Award winner Danielle Thaxton) had to create one of the looks from their portfolio for a fashion show that took place in Venice, Italy in July. I-SKOOL™ provided the designers with denim fabrics and workshops to learn how the fabrics perform. In September, it was announced that there was going to be a Denim Design Digital prize with voting by the public on social media over a two-week period this month.

David took top honors with his Air Force Urbanite collection that "has taken the functional aspects of the uniforms worn in several movies, such as Captain America and Pearl Harbor, and combined them with an urban fashion forward look." In order to obtain an ample variety of colors and textures, the fabrics have been treated with a variety of washes and dye methods for a truly unique garment. As the winner, he'll receive a Reflex digital camera and FIDM will receive 200 meters of ISKO denim fabric. Congratulations, David!
