Just Accepted Student Madison Ramsey Plans To Help Ugandan Women Start Fashion Businesses

Madison Ramsey is the FIDM Fashion Club President at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville, TN. She just got accepted into FIDM and her goal is to one day help Ugandan women start fashion businesses of their own.

What are your career goals? I dream big and someday I would like to become a fashion designer and make women’s clothing and couture. In the future, I would also like to raise money with my clothing line for new sewing machines, fabric, patterns, thread, etc. for Ugandan women. My goal is to go multiple times a year to help young women learn how to sew and start their own business from making clothes. I have been to Uganda, Africa twice and I will be going back this summer. I want to help women who do not have the opportunities that we do in America.

Tell us a little about yourself: I recently was accepted into FIDM!! Fashion has been a major part in my life ever since I can remember picking out my first outfit at age six and insisting that I was the only one to choose what I wore. Fashion is a way I can express who I truly am. I do not want to be defined by a certain fashion trend, how most people dress in my high school, or by what people expect of me. I want to live past the expectations, but through my passion.

How did you get involved in Fashion Club? I got involved in Fashion Club when I heard that FIDM offered a way to organize a Fashion Club at your own high school.

What do you love the most about it? What I love most about FIDM Fashion Club is how I can join people from all different grades who share the same passion as I do. We love to be creative and I love how I was able to meet new people!

What kinds of activities do you have planned for your club for the rest of the year? As for the rest of the year we have planned a guest speaker who has her own jewelry business. We also will have an Oscar red carpet party/club, a prom makeup tutorial, and possibly a DIY.
