Just Accepted Graphic Design Student Wants to Start Her Own Design Business

Name: Brigitte Sevigney

Age: 23

Hometown: Hoosick Falls, NY

Previous College: I began my Graphic Design journey at SUNY Cobleskill where I had the great value to gain a lot of experience in my field on top of receiving an associates degree. I was an IT personnel for the college in which I contributed to the IT department by offering my design skills while taking part in graphic design projects for the department as well as finding freelance work, which allowed me to keep practicing designing professional web graphics. Since graduating from SUNY Cobleskill, I’ve worked in two completely different print facilities where I’ve had the great chance to learn much about the printing processes--from screen printing onto fabric to large format printing for tractor trailers.

FIDM MajorGraphic Design - Professional Designation.

FIDM Campus and Start Date: Los Angeles Campus, Fall of 2016

Admissions Advisor: Seung Kim

How did your advisor help with the process? Seung went above and beyond my expectations throughout the whole admissions process. I’ve never worked with someone so kind and caring before while applying for school. She gave me all the information I could possibly need, and more, as well as making me feel so comfortable with my decision to further my education in graphic design. Any question or concern I had, she was on top of it to find out everything I needed to know before making any final decisions. It was amazing working with Seung, and I’m more than grateful to have had her as an admissions advisor while applying to FIDM. It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I’m a very creative person. I love anything that has to do with art and technology, which is how I fell in love with Graphic Design. Photography is also another passion of mine that I’d love to pursue on the side in the future.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? I’m more than proud of myself for everything that I have accomplished since starting my journey to becoming a graphic designer. From receiving an associates degree to getting jobs in my field as well as finding freelance work on the side, nothing is more satisfying than making progress and furthering myself one step at a time as a designer.

What made FIDM right for you? I’ve never had a school be so helpful with the admissions process. FIDM offers their students an endless amount of resources and provides a set of skills that will help pursue a career in the real world. FIDM essentially offered me the best opportunity to pursue my career in Graphic Design. I know that once finished with the professional designation program, I’m going to be a more successful and versatile Graphic Designer.

Describe your entrance project. Having already received a degree and having almost two years experience in the field, I provided work from both my previous school and work that I have done while working in prepress and doing freelance.

What are your career goals? My career goal is to own my own personal business, where I can start a project from the very beginning on paper to producing the final product by either print or digital media or whichever the client prefers. My goal is to be versatile in all aspects of graphic design.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? While attending FIDM for the next year, I aspire to take my skills and knowledge to the next level while creating close relationships with my peers and industry professional teachers. FIDM has so many resources both in and out of the classroom and I plan on taking advantage of each and every source.
