Anika Martirez Worked For BCBG and Halston Before Launching Her Own Line

FIDM Grad Anika Martirez's ready-to-wear line was recently featured on ABS-CBN News, the Philippines' leading news organization. 

Anika, who has degrees in Fashion Design and Merchandising & Marketing, worked for BCBGMAXAZRIA as a Fabric R&D Associate and at Halston as a Material R&D Associate before striking out on her own to launch Anika, a womenswear line founded in 2016. The wearable and laid back collection is designed and made in the Philippines. 

According to ABS-CBN News, it was the "chill vibes" of L.A. fashion that inspired her to make functional and effortless designs that would be appreciated by modern women. Anika told the outlet, she always tries to stay ahead of the game, while staying true to her own brand philosophy. She doesn't force creativity but waits for inspiration to come naturally.

"I try to be prolific with designing. When I catch myself forcing something, I take a step back and remind myself not to try too hard by letting things take its natural course," she said. "When inspiration hits me at the oddest of times, for instance, during my sleep, I make sure to document this in my idea notebook right away."

Known for designing "fuss-free feminine" looks, Anika says she's motivated by passionate women who share her work ethic and support one another. She welcomes feedback from clients and friends as well. "I surround myself with people who cheer me on, give me that boost of confidence, and know when and how to pick me up when I feel less like myself," she told ABS-CBN News. 

"One of the best parts about it is seeing my ideas come to fruition, engaging with my customers, and receiving positive feedback from real clients telling me that they appreciate the work I do—clients thanking me for making them look and feel good."
