Student Spotlight: Jazzy Rayne Carrillo chose FIDM to help her achieve her professional goals

Jazzy Rayne Carrillo grew up in Fillmore, California and attended Moorpark High School. After receiving an A.A. in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Moorpark Community College, Jazzy transferred to FIDM to pursue her Creative Industry Studies B.A. in Merchandising and Marketing, and plans to graduate Spring 2023. We checked in with her to learn more.

Why did you choose FIDM? I chose FIDM because I always knew I wanted to do something in the fashion industry, but more on the business side while still stimulating my creative side. I wasn't fully sure what exactly I wanted to do, but I knew my future goals were to start my own streetwear brand, get into PR/ marketing, and modeling. After talking with my advisor they guided me in the direction of Merchandising and Marketing, which I am so happy to be involved in and it truly was the perfect fit for me.

Why Merchandising & Marketing? And how is FIDM helping you toward your career goals? I chose merchandising and marketing because it is something I am really passionate about. I love the creative process of it all because it makes you think out of the box since there are so many different ways to market products, brands, people, etc. I also enjoy how fast paced the environment is, constantly keeping you on your toes to come up with new ideas and keeping up with trends. There is never a dull moment which makes it very exciting. FIDM continues to help me achieve my career goals by connecting me with amazing teachers, mentors, and peers that want to watch every student succeed and help open the door to so many amazing opportunities. These opportunities that FIDM presents are only the beginning of a special journey.

What is your background in Merchandising & Marketing? I have a background in both merchandise and marketing but I favor marketing more. I was working in retail stores such as CottonOn as a sales associate and visual display team member for about a year which gave me a lot of background on how retail stores market their products. I also have a background in social media marketing from freelancing to helping influencers/brands run their social media accounts. I am currently an intern at Recycled Karma Brands as I assist marketing their brand through social media. This internship has already taught me so much when it comes to the different ways to market on social media platforms.

Any internships or other class activities that stand out for you? The Marketing Premier Group stands out for me the most. I really look forward to each meeting because we are exposed to corporate recruiters, guest speakers, and alumni that really know the Industry and can help guide us in the right direction.
