IMPD Student Reilly Tilbrook Takes on Red Bull x FIDM Challenge

VA dependent student Reilly Tilbrook earned her Associate of Arts degree in Fashion Design in March and is now pursuing her Advanced Associate's in International Manufacturing and Product Development (IMPD).

How is your FIDM experience helping you on the Red Bull x FIDM project? My education at FIDM and my work experience have taught me a great deal about working with companies as well as individuals. The key is finding out who the people are behind the brand via their lifestyles, ages, and personal motivations. Then, by exploring new ideas and methods that may not have been previously considered, I am able to make a product that caters to the needs of these people.

What are you most looking forward to accomplishing on the Red Bull challenge? After interacting with the Red Bull Wings Team, I learned that the two most requested components in the new designs are individual style and practicality. It is my priority as a designer in the challenge to fulfill the Team Members requests and satisfy the Red Bull dress code policy.

What did you learn at the Red Bull presentations that is going to help you in your designs? Seeing how the Red Bull Wings Team interacted with people gave me an insight as to how they would engage and interact with potential Red Bull clients. They need clothing and backpacks that are practical and stand out in a crowd. The Red Bull employees explained the motivations of the brand, the innovative office environment, the value of customer loyalty, and the meaning behind some of the brand colors and logo.

Tell us a little about yourself: Friends and family would describe my personality as observant, determined, innovative and unconventional. I moved around a lot as a child because of my father's career, and I’ve lived overseas for the majority of my life which has exposed me to many different cultures, traditions, and languages. This has influenced who I am as a person and as a designer.

What are your career goals and how is FIDM helping you get there? After I graduate from FIDM with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, my career goal is to become a product manager. The IMPD program will help broaden my employment opportunities to foreign markets. The IMPD program partners with a well-known company, allowing students to learn what it's like to work and design for a major brand. This hands-on experience will help me thrive in a company in the near future.

Anything else you’d like to share? Working with Red Bull, such a known and revered company, is an incredible opportunity for which I am grateful. I look forward to the projects and challenges in the future.
