Students in Advanced Styling for Costume Designers Shoot Final Projects

Film & TV Costume Design Students in the Advanced Styling for Costume Designers class (DESN 4860) shot their final projects this week on the Los Angeles campus, both in Grand Hope Park and against the green screen at the Hope Street Annex.

FIDM Instructor Kwame Waters asked his students to pick a period film from the 1950s to 1985, choose a still, then recreate it using modern clothing. They were also challenged to create an original still for the film and explain relevancy. Mr. Waters asked the students to choose a couple as he wants them to gain experience styling both men’s and women’s costumes.

The students chose films including Mary Poppins, The Godfather, 16 Candles, Roman Holiday, and Star Wars.

Waters’ extensive industry career includes Costume Designer on Bravo’s The Kandi Factory and the official wardrobe supervisor of Netflix’s Queer Eye.
