Fashion Designer and Furniture Maker Featured in WSJ

Born in Miami and currently based in Los Angeles, Sam Klemick earned a degree in Fashion Design from FIDM in 2010. Sam went on to work at companies such as Guess, Alternative Apparel, Free People, and Rag & Bone. Since December of 2019, Sam has been the Design Director at PAIGE, the men’s and women’s lifestyle collection. In addition to a successful career as a fashion designer, Sam is making waves in woodworking and furniture design with her design practice Otherside Objects.

The FIDM Graduate recently discussed the popularity of puffy, broad-beamed chair styles reminiscent of the 1970s and 1980s in the Wall Street Journal. She spoke with the publication about the ecru canvas Big Nap chair she created earlier this year that was inspired by Maison Martin Margiela’s 1999 Duvet coat. Sam said people are prioritizing comfort amidst the pandemic. “We need levity and joy and a soft place to land when we get home,” Sam told the publication.
