FIDM Fashion Design Grad Prince Dru Profiled in Vogue

FIDM Fashion Design Graduate Jonathan Andru Acosta, better known as Prince Dru on Instagram, was recently profiled by Vogue

The designer and cofounder of the New York–based indie label, Del’Hacienda, has garnered online fame for his personal style, which he describes as “a modern Prince Charming who raids Cinderella’s wardrobe every now and then.” Prince Dru's Instagram account, where he has more than 11,000 followers, is "filled with hazy, twinkling self-portraits and wildly romantic attire," according to Vogue, who compares him to "Marie Antoinette meets Vivienne Westwood punk, with a touch of drama in the same vein as his idol Alexander McQueen." The FIDM Graduate wears pale hues, sometimes embellished with lace or embroidery, a signature platinum-blond pixie cut, chandelier earrings, and ornate headpieces.

The San Antonio, Texas native told the magazine, it was Lady Gaga who compelled him to “become more fearless in the way that I dressed.” He said: “Being a young boy in Texas, I didn’t have many people who I could relate to. Watching her made me learn the value in making statements rather than blending in with the crowd. By doing this, it allowed me to experiment with my style, and eventually it became an everyday passion of mine.”

In seventh grade, Prince Dru said a childhood pal opened his eyes to artists like Andy Warhol and designers like McQueen. They would watch Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette and create mood boards from Vogue clippings. He went on to study at FIDM in Los Angeles, where he met his partner in Del’Hacienda, Omar Cisneros. “The impetus behind starting our label was rebellion and love,” he told Vogue. “We want to change the fast-paced, influencer-driven mind-set of the industry and create a space for people to appreciate clothing for what it’s worth, and never forget that fashion is supposed to be fun.”
