Disney Collaborates With FIDM To Create a "Frozen 2" Inspired Window Display at Disney Store in Los Angeles
In celebration of the in-home release of Frozen 2 to Blu-ray on February 25, FIDM has taken over a Disney store window at Westfield Century City displaying five bespoke ‘Frozen 2’-inspired luxury streetwear looks and design elements, designed and created by FIDM Alumni including FIDM Co-Chair Fashion Design Nick Verreos. The Frozen 2-inspired window will be on display through Sunday, March 1.
Two DEBUT Alumni Designers, Paul Hernandez and Tomy Huang, designed and created two female and two male garments respectively, incorporating the elemental spirits of nature featured in the film—air, fire, water and earth—while Nick and his design partner and fellow FIDM Co-Chair David Paul, created an Elsa-inspired gown.
Earth (Giants)
"With our earth in mind, I wanted to incorporate some elements into the design that are repurposed and recycled. An oversized asymmetric coat houses a feminine bustier and skirt and is made to be versatile in silhouette and resemble the magnitude of the Earth Giant. The color direction was derived from the organic colors in the sleeping giants." - FIDM DEBUT Grad and Fashion Designer Paul Hernandez
Fire (Bruni)
"The salamander represents the fire spirit in Frozen 2, and is the main source of inspiration for my design. The deep hues of purple in the 'magical flames' dictated the color direction for my style. I was inspired to create a whimsical yet strong silhouette to mimic the elegant danger of the 'fantasy fire.' An embossed faux leather enchanted salamander skin is the main fabric used to bring the design to life." - FIDM DEBUT Grad and Fashion Designer Paul Hernandez
Wind (Gale)
"The wind is invisible and colorless, it is destructive and it also has connectivity. When the wind speeds up, it connects the broken parts. This is the main inspiration for my design. In my design, I chose to use transparent PVC material for the coat to represent the invisible colorless wind. Then use silver reflective fabric to highlight every seams of the coat.
I chose fluorescent orange as the main color of the jumpsuit and reflective silver as the second color. In Frozen 2, Gale rolls up a leaf, which gives it its distinctive color. I chose fluorescent orange as the physical form color of Gale, because the fluorescent color would reflect a special color under the black light. When the flash is on, it also shows different visual effects. I believe Gale will be different in color at different times of the day." - FIDM DEBUT Grad and Fashion Designer Tomy Huang
Water (Nokk)
"In Frozen 2, Nokk's mane impressed me the most. When the horse runs and jumps, its mane perfectly shows the fluidity of water and the luster of water. At the same time, its flowing mane reminds me of tassels. I chose the leather close to aqua blue as the main fabric, and the blue reflective material as the second fabric for highlighting. In the garment details, a large number of metal parts are used to highlight the details. I connected the tassel to the metal part of the O-ring to make the tassel more subtly integrated with the garment." - FIDM DEBUT Grad and Fashion Designer Tomy Huang
Elsa
FIDM Fashion Design Co-Chairs and Co-Designers Nick Verreos and David Paul are taking Elsa to the Arendelle red carpet. Draped in a silk crepe sequin gown that evokes elegance and glamour, Elsa is elevated to modern royalty. The celadon color of her gown adds a contemporary take on the classic blue hue that is Elsa’s signature, while the delicate hand-beaded silver crystals pay homage to the icicles of the frozen tundra.
Guests are encouraged to come view the magical window display and purchase a copy of the film.
