Kathryn Donaldson

Nineteen-year-old Kathryn Donaldson, a college sophomore from Michigan State University, is transferring to FIDM to major in Beauty Industry Merchandising & Marketing. She will start this fall on the Los Angeles campus!

Tell us a bit about yourself: Born and raised in Michigan, I’m a lover of all aspects of the cosmetic industry. I also love sports (I was in competitive gymnastics until I was sixteen), traveling, and spending as much time as possible with my family.

Previous degrees/college education: Attended Michigan State University for two years and member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? My proudest accomplishment so far would be the state championships I hold for gymnastics; I was a gold medalist on beam, floor, and bars.

What made FIDM right for you? FIDM was the perfect place for me because they are one of the only colleges in the entire nation that offers the program I was looking for. The Beauty Industry program offered at FIDM allows me to learn everything I could ever need, or want to know about what I feel most passionate about, cosmetics.

Describe your entrance project: For my entrance project, I dreamed up a product called "Silver Linings" for Benefit Cosmetics. Silver Linings is a very fine, very metallic (offered in silver and gold) eyeliner that is meant to be applied directly on your normal cat eye liquid liner.

What are your career goals? My ultimate career goal would be to have my own line of cosmetics, or be a beauty director for a well known, established company.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? At FIDM, I expect to grow as much as possible. I want to learn everything I possibly can about the beauty industry and explore California for inspiration and upcoming cosmetics companies.
