Victoria's Secret PINK Partners With Beauty Business Management Students in Capstone Course

In their senior capstone course taught by Ashley Vilgiate and Tina Perez, students in the Bachelor of Science in Beauty Business Management Program were paired with top New York beauty brands to work on real-world projects specific to their business needs. Over the course of two quarters, the brands (Dior, Fresh, NARS, Indie Lee, Victoria’s Secret, Givaudan, and PINK) have been meeting online once a month with the students to check on progress, provide feedback, and oversee next steps. The students will be traveling to New York, March 20-23, to present their final projects to the beauty brands. We caught up with Team PINK (FIDM Students Madison Litton, Natalya Hannah, Arli Bianco, and Briana Chan) to learn more about their project.

Briefly describe the PINK project you're working on: When we first started the project, we were tasked with creating a digital marketing campaign for Victoria’s Secret PINK based on research and data. Over the course of the project, it has blossomed into a full circle marketing campaign with product, social media content, in-store events, college campus events, and a partnership with a non-profit organization.

What kind of research are you doing? We are doing lots of research for this project. We’ve done consumer, influencer, competitive, ingredient, packaging, and marketing research as well as some legal research.

What are some of the things you're learning about as you work on this project with PINK? We’ve definitely learned a lot from presentation and research skills, creative skills, professionalism, and leadership skills, to thinking outside the box to learning how to support ideas that we believe strongly in, based on research and analysis.

What kind of feedback has PINK provided? PINK has always provided positive, yet constructive feedback that we will be able to take with us into our careers as industry professionals.

What is it like collaborating with your teammates? We love our team. We have so much fun getting to think out of the box for this project and the more we work together the more fun the project becomes because we’re able to brainstorm and generate creative ideas that we can take to the PINK team.

What kind of real-world industry experience are you gaining in this project? We have been able to apply a lot of the concepts we’ve learned over the last 3 years in the beauty programs to this project. We’ve been able to apply so many things like marketing techniques, research methods, industry trends, packaging development, fragrance development, etc.

When will you be giving your final presentation to PINK? We will be giving our final presentation at the end of March when we fly to New York City to meet with the PINK team and share our ideas, which we’re really excited about.

Anything else you’d like to share? This project has been so amazing to be able to really bring everything we’ve learned at FIDM to life with the opportunity to work with a real brand for a complete marketing campaign.
