Instructor is the Author of Two Textile Science Textbooks

Deborah Young is a renowned textile educator, consultant, and expert witness in textile matters

Deborah Young received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Textile Design and a Master of Fine Arts in Fiber from California State University, Long Beach. She’s spent more than 25 years as a textiles instructor, developing innovative and relevant curriculum, and is the author of the textbooks, Swatch Reference Guide for Fashion Fabrics and Swatch Reference Guide for Interior Fabrics, both published by Fairchild Books. She offers a wide range of textile consultation services and has been retained in more than 100 high-profile matters as an expert witness in textile design, textile science, and copyright infringement issues.

Deborah Young is a Hall of Fame member at FIDM, having won the Outstanding Faculty Award, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members, four different times.
