Find out what's happening in Fashion Design.

Name: Cassidy Olivares

Age: 17

Hometown: San Diego

FIDM Major: Fashion Design

FIDM Campus and Start Date: SD fall 2018

Admissions Advisor: Susan Pope

How did your advisor help with the process? Susan was a proud supporter of my work and passionately took me through the application process until I was accepted. She is very loving and motivating.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I love to go thrift shopping and remaking old clothes into something new. I also love going shopping for inspiration for my next sewing project. I've always wanted to start a collection, mostly wedding and prom dresses. I love working with delicate fabric to make outstanding pieces.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? Getting accepted into my dream college and making my own prom dress from scratch. I got to experience the inside and out of my dream dress and I couldn't be any happier.

What made FIDM right for you? I love to be challenged with my creativity and sewing ability. I want to learn new things every day.

Describe your entrance project. My entrance project was based on my prom dress. The pieces are very elegant with floral detailing and colorful. I put my heart and soul into my drawing, and will hopefully get the opportunity to make them.

What are your career goals? To own a small business mainly focusing on custom wedding and prom dresses, and also tailoring to a client's needs.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? I expect to become a better designer and learn all the ins and outs of fashion. I want to learn to be an independent designer with tons of creativity.
