Instructor Has Her Own Fashion Label and a Zero-Waste Atelier

Marina Leight brings invaluable experience to her students

Marina Leight’s childhood living in the forests of the San Juan Island each winter and on a fishing boat in Alaska during the summer inspired her career in fashion. After teaching herself to pattern and sew as a child, she studied Fine Art at Bellevue College and received an Advanced Study degree in Fashion Design from FIDM. Marina moved to Rome in 2004 to study couture techniques at Accademia Koefia. After three years designing in Italy, she returned to Los Angeles where she developed and manufactured private label for C&C of California, Guess, Rock & Republic, and Arden B. In 2008, she opened her design agency, factory, and customer atelier, Alumni Design & Development. After 10 successful years in business, she slowed her pace of life and opened Marina Leight Atelier, a zero-waste space in West LA that showcases her namesake label and offers design workshops to children and adults.
