Instructor Was Creative Director at Kicks to the Pitch

Do you have a particular style or philosophy about teaching?
My philosophy or goal when I teach is driven by putting myself in the students’ shoes. I want to make sure that they get the most real-world application out of the things I teach. I take into account my experiences in the past with instructors/professors and try to include the good but improve on the bad. All in all, I hope that my students leave my class with at least one lasting nugget that will help them get a job and or be successful when they finish school.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at FIDM?
Getting the opportunity to share my experiences in my field of the design industry and seeing how that helps the students on their journey to master their particular craft of design. One particular class that this is most on display is the studio class that spans over three quarters. At the end, seeing the results of the students thesis projects is really rewarding, especially knowing the process of design and discovery that went into the final product.

Richard Gordon is an Outstanding Faculty Award Winner, an award given by the student body to outstanding faculty members.
