Admissions Advisor: Debbie Hatcher

Tell us a bit about yourself: I’m a 20 year old who has always been involved in the fashion and beauty industry. I’ve done everything from makeup artistry to styling clients at my job at a clothing boutique just north of Boston. When I’m not working, I love being with my big family, traveling, and vintage shopping.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? Besides being admitted to FIDM, my proudest accomplishment is having the opportunity to be Miss Massachusetts three times. I competed in pageants for 12 years of my life and it truly helped me gain confidence. I was so humbled and gracious to use my titles as a platform to promote confidence in young girls and advocate for mental health.

What made FIDM right for you? As soon as I set foot on the FIDM Los Angeles campus, I instantly felt at home. It was as if I had been searching for something and finally found it. I always knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry, and FIDM solidified that for me. The campus, the staff, and most of all the opportunities that FIDM has provided for students are truly impressive. I knew that FIDM was going to challenge me in a way that would make me the most prepared to enter the work force.

Tell us what impact the Signature Summer Program had on your decision to attend FIDM: The Signature Summer Program was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I got a small taste of the school’s culture, curriculum, and opportunities while I was there for two weeks. I would say by the second day I was already so excited to attend in the fall. The summer program was so insightful, so much so it helped me narrow down my major. The staff, students and whole program was something I will never forget!

Who has been your biggest supporter/influencer in guiding you to FIDM? When I left my previous college in January, I took some time off to decide what my true passion was. I met my friend Dana at the beginning of the year and she happened to be a FIDM alumna! We talked about the programs and how much she loved it, so I did more research. I instantly had a gut feeling that told me FIDM was the place for me! I didn’t even look at any other schools. Ever since then, Dana has been my biggest cheerleader and supporter of my FIDM journey.

What are your career goals? Where do I begin?! The biggest dream I have would be to own my own women’s clothing boutique or brand. I’ve also always dreamed of working at Vogue, coordinating the Met Gala or Creative Directing. Whatever career opportunity comes my way, I know I will be prepared with my degree from FIDM.
