An Interview With Celebrity Footwear Designer and FIDM Student Devlin Braswell

FIDM Merchandise Product Development Student Devlin Braswell is a successful custom sneaker designer with a celebrity following. He'll be a student guest speaker at FIDM San Francisco's Open House on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

How did you first hear about FIDM? I actually heard about FIDM from a former student who I was on a date with. I told her I was into fashion and creating shoes. She told me I should try FIDM out. I'm glad I went on that date.

How has FIDM helped you with your already-successful business and design sensibilities? I learned the most in my Textiles class and also my Adobe Illustrator class. I use both the skills I've learned from those classes in my day-to-day business.

What are your ultimate career goals? To continue on the path I'm on and continue to be successful, finish my bachelor's degree, and teach at FIDM one day.

How do you feel about speaking at FIDM Open House next month? What do you plan to share? I look forward to it. I love promoting my school. I'm proud to represent FIDM SF, I just plan on keeping it real and telling them my experience at FIDM.

What advice would you give to an aspiring footwear designer? Believe in yourself, stay focused and be ready to sacrifice sleep and partying in the pursuit of chasing your dream.
