Just Accepted Visual Communications Student Transfers From University of Arizona

Name: Morgan Brown

Age: 20

Hometown: Overland Park, Kansas

Previous College: I attended the University of Arizona from 2014 to 2016

FIDM Major: Visual Communications

Admissions Advisor: Shirley McDonald

How did your advisor help with your process?
Shirley has helped me with my admissions process in more ways than I can begin to explain. Transferring from the University of Arizona is a tough transition, but after meeting Shirley in person during a FIDM Open House, I’ve never felt more comfortable to make this transition. With her guidance and support, she has instilled confidence in me to pursue my passion through FIDM. I am very excited to get the chance to work with her this upcoming fall semester.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I am a very relaxed and spontaneous person. I love adventures and exploring the beautiful world around us through traveling. I have spent almost my entire summer traveling around different states in the USA, along with going to the Bahamas.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? My proudest accomplishments so far would be my modeling portfolio I have been in the process of creating for the past year. At the University of Arizona, I involved myself into the fashion industry by modeling for various online stores and boutiques surrounding my school. Within those experiences, I gained so much knowledge about the fashion industry. I was able to learn about photography through the photographers, styling through the stylists, makeup through the makeup artists, and even the merchandising of clothes through the online boutiques I modeled for. Since I have never been signed with a modeling agency by choice, I did most of these modeling gigs for free and just for the experience and insight into the fashion industry, so to me that alone is my proudest accomplishment.

What made FIDM right for you?
I knew FIDM was right for me immediately upon arriving at the campus for an Open House. I walked in the doors and immediately felt at home. Also, meeting my advisor Shirley McDonald and seeing how much she believed in me really was the final sign that FIDM was the right path for me.

Describe your entrance project. For my entrance project, I had three different assignments. For my first project, I had the freedom to create whatever I wanted as long as it included squares, triangles, and circles. For the last two projects, they were to create an exterior window display and an interior store display. Throughout all of the projects, I loved the amount of freedom, making it easy to let my creativity and personality shine through my work.

What are your career goals?
My ultimate career goal would be being a personal stylist.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM?
I hope to gain understanding of the fashion industry through in-class and out-of-class experiences and opportunities. I also hope to further my learning about all the different aspects of the fashion industry that go into creating it as a whole including art, sketching, photography, styling, modeling, etc.
