FC President Lexy Silverstein Starts at FIDM This Fall in Merchandising & Marketing

Future Merchandising & Marketing Student Lexy Silverstein, who was born and raised in Rockville, Maryland, will start her college career at FIDM this fall. The current Richard Montgomery High School FIDM Fashion Club President and fashion and beauty blogger is making her longtime dream of moving to California a reality and taking the first step to joining the fashion industry she’s always loved.

What was your path to discovering FIDM? I decided to graduate early from high school and was very unprepared with where I wanted to go to college. I always knew I loved fashion. I have a fashion blog and have had a dream of moving to California and joining the industry since I was very young. My college counselor told me about FIDM and when I visited the campus for the first time I was sold. FIDM was everything I could ever want in a college.

What was your first impression when visiting the campus? Admission Advisor Dee Solis clarified everything I was confused about and just visiting and feeling very connected to campus and school was a great feeling.

How do you hope FIDM will prepare you for your career goals? From everything that I’ve learned about FIDM, they're really there for you. I’ve seen classes in action and students work on the things that they want to do for the rest of their life. Since teachers at FIDM work in the industry, that will give me and everybody else access to real-life scenarios. I have full confidence that FIDM will provide me with all of the resources and knowledge that I’ll need to have for my major.

What do you enjoy most about blogging and social media? It gives me a way to express myself and meet new people. I have friends in different countries, states, and cities because so many people are able to connect on social media. And I don’t feel like I have to be a certain way because there are all types of people on social media. I can be who I want to be freely and post and share that anywhere I want to.

How are you staying inspired during these challenging times? I'm trying to stick to a routine and also trying to add new things to my day that I never had time for in the past. I'm really focusing on working out and eating healthy. I’m also focusing on my mental health. I try to incorporate things I love to do on a day to day basis like taking photos, editing YouTube videos, etc. I’m also personally trying to make masks for people in my community.

What are you most looking forward to once the pandemic is over? I'm really looking forward to hanging out with my friends and people I didn't usually hang out with before the pandemic. I had lots of plans to travel over the summer so if that can still happen, I'm really looking forward to that. And finally, I'm looking forward to having a graduation. My school hasn't officially cancelled ours yet. I am trying to be optimistic, hoping we will still have one later on.
