Menswear Student Randy Morales Staying Inspired While Staying Safe at Home

U.S. Navy Veteran Randy Morales is in his final quarter of the Menswear program. He was featured on the blog about a year ago as a student in the Apparel Industry Management program, at which time he was working on launching his own yoga wear brand, S.I.E.X. With just three more quarters to go to earn his Bachelor’s degree, we caught up with him to find out how he is staying inspired during these challenging times.

Tell us why it’s important to show up for your community, your career, and yourself right now: For myself, with everything that’s going on, I think it’s important to work on you, so that when everything is clear you can hit the ground running and be ahead of the game. I know in this time many people may be relaxing and sending videos on Instagram, but if you devoted that same time to working on designs and creating, when everything is done you have so much to show and give to the world. Not saying you can’t enjoy this time at home, but we all need to manage it well.

What are you doing to stay inspired during these challenging times? One of my art projects I’m working on is taking a busted TV and using it as a canvas to paint. I’m also using this time to reorganize my life and get things situated the way I want them to be. For example, my room and cleaning out my car. Working out is a huge part of everything too—keeping healthy and getting to the point in my fitness I want to be.

Anything else you want to share? I know the FIDM Student Veterans of America (SVA) community is thinking about making masks and helping out in that way. We’ve all been in touch throughout this time at home, supporting each other personally and with our professional lives.

Keep up with Randy Morales on Instagram @randaconda, and stay inspired.
