Levis Partners with FIDM on 501 Day Design Project

In celebration of Levi’s® 501® Day, a select group of FIDM Students reinvented the classic 501® style into works of wearable art on view and available for purchase at the Levi’s store on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, Saturday, May 19th from 12 noon to 9pm. There will be a special toast for FIDM Students from 2-3pm.

Working closely with The Business of Denim and Special Projects Chair Amanda Starling, Levi’s collaborated with 50+ students asking them to reinvent the original blue jean, however they imagined, by transforming two pairs of 501® jeans into two, one-of-a-kind denim pieces.

Gina Claridge, a Business Management Student whose design is pictured above, was inspired by the ‘80s and classic California style in her shredded 501s.

The students learned the Levi’s story and completed hands-on workshops that empowered them with practical skills to work with denim with confidence.

Business Management Student Tiffany Vega, “My design inspiration comes from the inner workings of an artist. I wanted to put an artist's perspective into the jeans, showing how they would wear it and make it their own. The jeans show the process of their art." Apparel Technical Design Student Emma Boggs, “My inspiration for this design was the original 1872 Levi’s® 4-pocket jean, with a modern streetwear aesthetic.”
