Merchandise Product Development Premier Group Tours the California Market Center

Earlier this month the Merchandise Product Development Premier Group cohort toured the California Market Center on a field trip to the facility which is located just blocks from FIDM in the Fashion District. Two FIDM grads, Moriah Robinson (Visual Communications) and Matthew Mathiasen (Merchandise Product Development) conducted the tour. They both work at CMC’s management company, Brookfield Properties, in their events department.

California Market Center hosts buyers 5 times a year for Los Angeles Market Week, the premier west coast fashion trade show, amongst other fashion events. The building was constructed in 1963 to be the first wholesale fashion marketplace west of the Mississippi and recently underwent a major transformation bolstering its ability to serve the fashion industry.

“We visited Building C, where all of the California Market Center tenants and fashion showrooms were, which was really cool to see because it’s where the buying meetings happen. We also got to see the rooftop deck where CMC special events are sometimes located,” Merchandising & Marketing student Priya Mandaliya said of the 45-minute tour. Some of the students were able to stay after and chat further with the tour guides. All of the tour participants received tote bags to mark the occasion.
