Want to Pursue a Career in Motion Graphics?

Many of our prospective students are searching for creative careers that have an excellent job outlook, will provide better job security, and will allow them to utilize the technology they know and love. Graphic design careers are often popular choices, as the majority of brands need a graphic design expert on their team. But while graphic designers earned an average salary of $44,150 back in 2012, there's another lucrative and fulfilling career path that artistically-inclined graphic artists or filmmakers should explore: motion graphics (average salary of $63,440 with the potential to make around $100,000).

What do motion graphics careers include?

These careers involve the combination of art design, animation, and knowledge of film and digital media. Designers create artwork for TV, film, or internet use; their work can be seen in movie clips, commercials, title sequences, viral videos, film trailers, and more. Essentially, they design graphics that move and the skills can be learned in motion graphics courses. In the digital age, these professions have never been more visible and important. Graphics are vital to the survival of digital media, and designers have the option of working in a variety of industries. From Hollywood blockbusters to iPhone app sequences, this work is seen virtually everywhere.

What kind of responsibilities do motion graphic designers take on?

Artists who specialize in this field have to create two-dimensional and three-dimensional images and use computers, video, and audio to capture and create animation sequences. They need to conceptualize, story board, animate, and edit, among other duties. They also need to identify the best methods at their disposal to communicate a given message or project. They need to be familiar with all kinds of mediums and techniques. Here at FIDM, you'll take motion graphics classes to learn every part of this discipline and learn what it takes to become a motion graphics designer in our Digital Media program.
