Student Spotlight: Digital Cinema Major Runs Business While Pursuing Bachelors Degree

Author and Entrepreneur Diamond Perkins kept busy during the pandemic by starting a multimedia design company and working to complete her B.A. in Digital Cinema. Diamond grew up in Southern California and attended A.B. Miller High School in Fontana before attending FIDM. She completed her A.A. in Digital Media and will finish her B.A. in 2023. This busy student caught us up on her experience so far.

Tell us about your business. What do you do, and how long have you been running it? I run a multimedia design business called DAML (Diamonds Are My Love). I do everything from website design to video editing, and I've been running it since 2020.

What are your goals for your company? Have they changed since you launched? I enjoy bringing my clients' visions to life currently. In the future I see myself expanding into a bigger creative company and giving back to the youth by teaching them everything I know.

How is FIDM helping you achieve your goals? FIDM has taught me absolutely everything I know. I couldn't have picked a better major or school. I've also established connections that have allowed me to walk into new opportunities.

What is your advice for someone thinking of launching a business while in school? Learning time management and a good business foundation is a must. Don't be afraid to ask your instructors for help, too. Also, there isn't a perfect time to launch, you've gotta step out and not be afraid of making mistakes.

Anything else you'd like to share? I was recently hired to be a Digital Media Artist at FIDM and I'm so excited to start.

Keep up with Diamond Perkins on Instagram @diamondsaremylove.
