Living Spaces Recruits on Campus During Industry Partnership Event

As part of the Career Center’s Industry Partnership recruiting events this week, Living Spaces visited the Los Angeles campus to discuss career opportunities within their organization for an audience of Visual Communications and Interior Design students.

Retail Field Recruiter Amy Morita and General Manager of Living Spaces Redondo Beach Tania Ramenaden sat on a panel moderated by Kevin Keele, Director of Career Development LA. Living Spaces is currently recruiting for interns, interior design, and visual display careers.

They gave an overview of the company which is headquartered in neighboring La Mirada. The furniture company launched in 2003 and has been growing nonstop ever since. They have 20 stores on the West Coast and are opening more in California and Texas.

The president is passionate about offering internal growth opportunities. Visual Communications student Shelby Greene started as an intern at Living Spaces over a year ago in their merchandising/marketing department. When she graduated in June, they hired her full-time as a Visual Merchandising Stylist/Coordinator. She’s now looking to move into production design and set decorating in the studio department.

“This company is great with growth,” said Shelby. “I enjoy the in-store merchandising, however the atmosphere of being on set using props, on location, and taking photos feels so right for me.”

FIDM Interior Design graduates Emilie Baltorinic and Joy Huitron also hold positions at Living Spaces, as a digital marketing coordinator and visual merchandiser, respectively.

Amy Morita described their company culture as warm, inviting, and very relaxed. She said the employees are team members, and celebrate birthdays and holidays together. One of the biggest perks is the free catered lunches at their retail locations on the weekends. They also have an annual summer carnival-themed picnic for team members and their families.

The leadership at Living Spaces is outstanding. The owner runs a company-wide survey twice a year and then implements changes based on the feedback. As an example, Living Spaces changed their logo in 2012 based on this type of team member input.

The company launched their internship program a year and a half ago and they encouraged students to apply. They also have full-time positions available at their retail locations in La Mirada, Monrovia, Redondo Beach, and Van Nuys. They are looking for candidates who are eager to learn and gain experience.

Revolve, Fashion Nova, and Havaianas were also on campus this week recruiting for positions in fashion design, technical design, product development, buying, marketing, and social media.
