Sean Kingston Commissions MPD Grad Thomas Flores on Streetwear Designs

Thomas Flores has garnered quite a celeb following for his Los Angeles-based streetwear brand, Trues Florish. The fourth person in his family to earn a degree from FIDM, Thomas graduated in 2016 with his degree in Merchandise Product Development.

Inspired by music and hip-hop culture, he started his brand before he came to FIDM. Now available online at truesflorish.com, his line includes t-shirts, sweaters, hats, jeans, and tracksuits. He also creates custom pieces—Sean Kingston commissioned him to make shirts to match his shoes for an event.

“A lot of my clients are in the music industry,” said Thomas. “Pharrell gave me kudos for one of my designs. He said it was the best Givenchy-inspired shirt he’s seen.”

Fashionista reports that there are more promising brands coming out of Los Angeles than ever. In an interview with Chris Gibbs, the publication quoted the influential founder of LA streetwear retailer Union as saying, "LA is maybe not the birthplace, but it's the home of streetwear right now.”

The list of celebrity clients continues to grow for Thomas Flores, and now includes Kyle Kuzma, NBA player on the Los Angeles Lakers, Sean Kingston, Khalil, DJ Mustard, O.T. Genasis, and actor Leon Thomas.

Thomas’ sister, America Gathers, his brother-in-law, Eero Gathers, and his cousin, Erika Flores, are all graduates of FIDM and working in the fashion industry.
