Students Meet Grad and Farfetch Private Client Stylist on Trendsetters Study Tour

The Trendsetters Study Tour took students into the Los Angeles headquarters of Farfetch recently, where they met with Elyse Winter, FIDM Merchandising & Marketing Grad and Farfetch Private Client Stylist. Elyse shared her journey and offered sage advice to the students. We caught up with the 2013 alumna to find out more.

Tell us what it's like to be a VIP stylist for Farfetch: I'm a stylist on the Farfetch private client team. I work with our top VIP clients to curate an edited selection of product tailored to them. I use our amazing partnerships with the boutiques and brands on our platform to enhance their shopping experiences. My clients are some of the most fashionable men and women from around the globe!

What do you enjoy the most about your career? I love my job because no two days are the same. I could be in the office creating an email campaign one day, and running around the city to client appointments the next. I have been with Farfetch for three years this September. I have grown into a few roles with the company, and I value that our company strives to promote from within.

The environment in the offices and core values that make Farfetch unique is what I love the most. I look forward to going to work every day, and to me that is what success looks like.

Tell us a little about yourself: I started my career in 2011 interning for Nordstrom in Designer Sales. Shortly after I worked with Bloomingdale's doing visual merchandising. Upon graduating FIDM, I took a role with 7 For All Mankind within their wholesale showroom. Since then, I have worked with Dolce and Gabbana in their PR showroom and Barneys New York in personal shopping.

Personal shopping and styling is my passion and it took me a few role changes to come to that conclusion.

Why did you choose FIDM? I attended FIDM because I wanted to be involved with one of the biggest fashion networks in Los Angeles. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and FIDM has always been a staple in the industry here. Going to FIDM opened a lot of doors for me and gave me the credibility to land some of the roles that I have had.

How do you feel FIDM prepared you for what you are doing now? FIDM was a fabulous place for me to grow and network. Learning for me did not stop in the classroom. I met so many amazing professors and students that I am still in touch with.

Any advice for current FIDM Students? Be humble, punctual, and true to yourself. When you are self aware and confident, everything falls into place.

What is your biggest goal right now? In the short-term, my goal is to acclimate to my new surroundings in New York. My long-term goal is to continue to grow within the industry and attend Paris, London, and Milan Fashion Weeks.

Anything else you’d like to share? A fun fact about my Farfetch journey is that I interviewed with the company back in 2012 and it did not work out at that time. I knew that Farfetch would be in the cards for me at some point and I didn't let that discourage me. In hindsight, the timing was off and I am thankful things worked out like they did. Timing is everything! I am a Los Angeles native, however I am relocating to New York this month with Farfetch! My dream has been to move to New York and I am excited to start my life here with the company I love.

The Trendsetters Study Tour is offered through the Merchandise Product Development and Merchandising & Marketing departments. Over three Fridays, students visit the Louis Vuitton manufacturing facility in Irwindale, Revolve, and the Los Angeles headquarters of Ted Baker and Farfetch.
