How did your advisor help with the process? My advisors were absolutely a dream to work with. Margaret and Cathy are incredible advisors with their up-to-date check-ups, and basically having the all the answers to my questions. My advisors gave me the confidence I needed during the admissions process, especially with my portfolio. Not only did they help me achieve my dream of attending FIDM, but they provided nonstop support and guidance to get me here this past year.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I am an adventurous, quirky individual, and I am truly inspired by everything around us. As much as I love exploring and trying new things, I am never opposed to a nice relaxing day inside with Netflix. When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy drawing, painting, rearranging my room, or completing the DIYs I come across to pass my time.

What are your proudest accomplishments so far? My proudest accomplishment so far is graduating UCI with a BA in Art History and finishing my FIDM portfolio. The past four years have been nothing but an adventure with many ups and down, so I am extremely happy to be where I am today. I’ve been dreaming of becoming a FIDM student and I am proud of myself for finally becoming one.

What made FIDM right for you? FIDM has always been a dream of mine to attend since high school. After doing research, meeting with my advisors, and attending the LA campus Open House, I knew in my heart that the school just felt right. I was inspired by the creative minds of all the students and teachers. All in all, I believe that there is no greater feeling than the ability to express your creativity and to share your talents with others. And with the Visual Communications major FIDM offers, I know I have the opportunity to do so.

Describe your entrance project. As I was designing my portfolio, I envisioned my ideal client to be Anthropologie. I imagined myself as a customer in the store and wanted to produce an eye-catching design. My project was inspired by steam punk and the Industrial Revolution. I kept all three projects within the Industrial Chic theme, but used different aspects such as steam pipes, gears, machinery, and clocks. Having the freedom in creating exterior and interior store displays was definitely out of my comfort zone, but it gave me that opportunity to see potential in my designs and expressing my creativity.

What are your career goals? My goal in life is to be truly happy pursuing a career in doing something that I love and I have no doubt that FIDM has the all the support and guidance in helping me achieve that. Upon graduating the Professional Designation program in Visual Communications, a major goal of mine is to see a creation or design of mine come to life.

What do you expect to learn at FIDM? At FIDM, I expect to learn more about the fashion and entertainment industries through the eyes of a Visual Communications major. I hope to gain new skills/knowledge through the program in order to pursue my dream career.
