French Couture Opens a Door

French Couture Opens a Door

The elevated world of French fashion opened its doors to three foreign design houses this summer. Rodarte and Proenza Schouler of the U.S. and Peter Dundas of London recently showed in the 2017-18 Paris fashion shows. In another nod to modernity, the federation that governs the fashion industry just renamed itself "Federation de la Haute Couture et de la Mode," an abbreviation of the even longer traditional name. How did California's Rodarte sisters do in their first Paris fashion show? Just swell, according to NYT's Fashion critic Vanessa Friedman. "The almost cinematic sartorial fantasies of the sisters...had a new rigor in the leafy, rose-strewn 17th century courtyard."
