Alumna Janice Morrison Launches Online Retail Business

When we interviewed FIDM Apparel Industry Management Alumna Janice Morrison in April, she indicated that it was her goal to launch a business before the end of the year. Right on target, she’s just announced the launch of her online vintage retail business, Pieces Vintage. Based in Vineland, New Jersey, the DECA scholarship winner gave us the inside scoop on her new business.

What inspired you to launch Pieces Vintage? I get personal joy from hunting and looking for unique one-of-a-kind pieces that stand out to me. I prefer them over wearing something mass produced and made in every color. Finding older and sometimes forgotten pieces is such a thrill for me that I just felt like I had to share it with everyone.

How would you describe the styles on Pieces Vintage? Vibrant, one-offs, and timeless.

Where do you source your products? I source most of my clothes from estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores.

Who is your customer? My customer is the person who unquestionably expresses their personality through their wardrobe, the individual who knows that it is more than just clothes on their bodies. It's timeless pieces that carry stories of their own. An individual who truly values and connects with their pieces.

What is your price point? Our price points are very reasonable ranging from $4 - $200

Tell us about your product selection process? When picking out the pieces that I want to carry in the store, I only choose the ones that I feel like I absolutely must have and that I would more than likely not see anywhere else.

How is your FIDM degree in Apparel Industry Management helping you in your career? My FIDM degree in Apparel Industry Management has been extremely helpful in my career, by providing me with the best tools to truly understand and evaluate the fashion industry from a business perspective. Honestly, when it comes to managing and growing my business, I refer back to the things I've learned at FIDM with nearly everything I do.

Anything else you'd like to share? I would just like to tell everyone to stay tuned, as the store is only going to get better and it is far more than just clothes and accessories. I have a long list of plans and ideas that we will be opening up to the public within the next coming year.
