Visual Communications Grad Has Designed For Clients Like Nike and Crate and Barrel

Since graduating from FIDM in 2010, environmental designer Dyona Frycek has worked with clients such as Nike, Crate & Barrel, Charmin, and Tiffany & Co., among others. 

Based in her native Chicago, Dyona is known for solving creative problems. Taking an all-encompassing approach to design, including everything from interior, retail, and event design to visual and prop styling, the Visual Communications Graduate works with everyone from multimillion dollar corporations to local small businesses. 

While searching for colleges online, Dyona came across FIDM. "After reading the courses and class descriptions, I knew Visual Communications was going to give me the tools I needed to be successful," she said. "I was specifically looking to become an event designer at the time of enrollment, but the course work allowed me to explore many different career paths. Today I use these skills in an all encompassing approach to event design, prop styling, set design, visual merchandising, and retail design."

Dyona held a few full-time jobs over the years, but would often use her vacation days and sick time to freelance and run her own business on the side. "In 2015, I finally made the leap to run my business full time and I never looked back," she said. "My favorite part of each project is when it all comes to life, in a photo, in a room, or a store, when all the hard work is done it is a huge pay off."

She said some of her favorite projects to date are the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party at Paramount Studios, where she served as the assistant event producer/designer, designing the Piper and Paxton Baby Boutique, and the M&M'S 75th Anniversary Party, where she was the event's interior designer.
