Danielle Douglas

“I was first introduced to inventory management as a buyer for an independent retailer so I know firsthand how crucial time and planning can be. Inherently drawn to the analytics, it was clear to see how beneficial merchandise plans and reports were in ensuring a clear roadmap for success.

With the introduction to retail so early, I pursued and earned a BS in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Delaware. I worked in the buying world for about seven years in a few different capacities with companies including Life is Good, CCS, Motherhood Maternity (Destination Maternity), and Global Pursuit. This ultimately led me to join RMSA over seven years ago, and then Management One eight months ago as a retail consultant.

I always knew working with independent retailers was what I really enjoyed most. I find each type of retailer is unique in a sense of their seasonality, volume drivers, and turnovers. I like the challenge of learning something new and being able to bring a different perspective to that retailer.

Most of my clients will say that I am detail oriented and personable, and that I increase their cash flow. Along with my love of the independent retailer, I frequently teach a buying class or two to keep myself connected to the different consumers and trends. I also perform workshops for my clients to help ensure all buyers and staff understand the plans (among other areas of the business).

Since the courses I teach emphasize math, I try to relate the numbers and concepts to scenarios or stories of what it would look like in a store. It can be easy for some students to just memorize a formula or process, but I try to give meaning to those formulas and processes."
